The Official Gaganyaan mission Patch:
For a mission to send the first Indians into space.
This mission patch art was commissioned to us by the ASTRE; Assembly System Testing & Recovery Entity. & HSFC; Human Space Flight Centre of the Indian space research Organisation.
The ASTRE & HSFC departments at ISRO are responsible for the capsule that will house the astronauts. & they wanted a design that ‘encapsulates’ (pun very much intended) the sheer force, gravity and risk a crew module has to overcome.
I presented them with 3 options . They picked option 2 as the shape itself is that of a crew module. & the crew module in the badge is hurtling through earths atmosphere with such ferocity that it has ripped through the borders of the badge!
I think they picked the right one!
And the biggest honour of all…
To see a patch I designed on the hull of the capsule during the Gaganyaan tests in late 2023. This was one of the biggest honors of my life. It makes me, albeit a tiny part, a part of history none the less.
